One of the newest additions to NBC's The Voice is being sued by her ex-manager.
Antonio de la Rua, Shakira's ex-manager, is alleging that he is entitled to $100 million as a result of their failed business partnership.
De la Rue met Shakira in 2000 while he was working as her father's campaign manager for his bid for the Argentinian presidency. Shakira and de la Rue began dating soon after.
De la Rue takes credit for her success beyond the Latin American market, calling himself the "principal architect of her management team and business plan that set 'Shakira' on the path to lasting financial success," according to the filing. Throughout his time as her business manager, De la Rue helped Shakira on several projects which secured several lucrative sponsorships. One of them, a ten year deal with Live Nation in 2008 which he estimates is worth $300 million. Another, was a deal with Telefonica which secured a $9 million sponsorship for Shakira.
January 2011, Shakira parted romantic ways with Antonio de La Rue but claimed to still be business partners. In a statement on her website she said, "We continue to be partners in all of our projects.". De La Rue claims that she severed all ties with him in October of 2011.
Shakira just recently joined Jay-Z's management team at Roc Nation in February 2012.
