On Sunday night at the John Varvatos bowery boutique, former home of the legendary CBGB’s club, rock n roll legends Cheap Trick performed a 35th anniversary show of their 2 day concert at Tokyo's Nippon Budokan to a few hundred fans lucky enough to have attended.

The lineup of singer Robin Zander, guitarist Rick Nielsen, bassist Tom Petersson and Nielsen's son Daxx sitting in for Bun E. Carlos on drums showed why they, and the live LP, have stood the test of time. With riffing hooks and sing along choruses Zander and Nielsen had the crowd in the palm of their hands and reliving their youth. With an open bar available and framed pictures of rock legends adorning the walls the crowd shouted and danced along to every note and every lyric of songs that they grew up with. Nielsen, playing the nerdy role sporting a Budokan bowtie, was very animated in his stage presence as a long blonde haired Zander worked the crowd in a white suit and navy cap.

For 90 minutes, fans were treated to a once in a lifetime show from one of rock’s biggest bands in arguably the greatest city in the world. This concert and band proved that getting old doesn’t mean you gotta hang it up for a cane or walker; the spirit of rock keeps us all young!
