BBC Radio Reports 200,000 Fake "Beats By Dre" Headphones Seized

BBC 4 Radio reports that over 200,000 Beats By Dre headphones have been seized by British authorities in the last year.

The fake headphones have been selling for around £15 (see picture above), compared to the authentic products which go for anywhere from £120 and £500.

In addition to the main issue of bootleg manufacturers copying the popular Beats headphones, there's also the issue of record stores selling unsavory products that could be so poor quality that they damage people's ears. The owner of the store where the picture above was taken in Cambridge, England has said that he didn't know the "Copys" were unauthorized and since stopped selling them.

An interesting fact from the report: In 2012 more than 11 million pairs of headphones were sold in the United Kingdom - five million more than in 2008.

The moral of the story? Be careful about what you buy. If it's too good to be true, then it's probably fake. It's better to buy an authentic cheap set of headphones than it is to buy a cheap copy of something that's supposed to be good.
