Daft Punk Talk Random Access Memories & Tour Plans With Australian Radio [Interview]

On Friday, Daft Punk's Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and Thomas Bangalter called into The Doctor on Australia's Triple J Radio to talk about their new album Random Access Memories and more specifically, their collaboration with Nile Rodgers and Pharrell Williams on "Get Lucky", which was partially recorded at New York City's Electric Ladyland studio in addition to "many other studios".

"We like the songs we did with Pharrell... because they really represent this idea of bridging the generations together. You know? And what Nile Rodgers represents in dance music and R&B and in America in the '70s and '80s, and what Pharrell represents for somehow the same genre in music in the '90s and the year 2000s. It's really interesting to connect all these eras together to creating the music of the present and possibly the music of the future as well."

"I can summarize what the concept of this record is. Which is this idea of teaming up. Trying to do quality pop music and dance music, which is just the idea of something which is a good feeling."

"Most of the ideas of this record are the ideas of celebration. Probably because it was created in a really timeless bubble like that. It turns out to be a very optimistic record with very celebratory and optimistic lyrics and it's coming out at a point where, you know, in a world which is not so optimistic and which is somehow maybe more cynical and slightly pessimistic."

"There is no plans to play this album live, right now... because we've spent 5 years working on this record and focusing on the record and that's really the first step. By releasing it is we'd just like people experience it and have the record being this focal point. So we'll see what we want to do, but we're still in the process of presenting and sharing this record with Australia and the rest of the world."
