Metallica's gigantic 3-D movie, Metallica Through the Never, is on the horizon, and the trailer shows that it's going to be nothing if not intense. The movie will be half concert, half story. The story involves a roadie "sent out on an urgent mission" where he encounters explosions, riots, horses, and who knows what else. What the mission is, we don't know, but clearly it will be as loud and fiery as a standard Metallica concert.

Metallica has been touring extensively to make money to pay for the film, which as one can imagine from watching the trailer, has a hefty price tag. The touring and the movie have delayed Metallica's work on a new album. They say that they have been working on it though, and frontman James Hetfield says they have enough material to record a full album, but they still need time to sort through everything and "start whittling it into these masterpieces."

The movie is the first to be released on every IMAX screen in North America. It will be released in IMAX 3-D on September 27, and then in standard theaters on October 4.
