Godspeed You! Black Emperor will be officially releasing their sixth album, Asunder, Sweet and Other Distress, on March 31st. Today, the band has shared that album a week early via SoundCloud. You can listen to it above.

The four track LP is a forty-minute sonic adventure of swirling guitars, rising crescendos, sympathetic strings, and noise. Put them together, and you have an album that's focused and adventurous.

"Peasantry or 'Light! Inside of Light!" opens the album with a wash of dark guitar notes and sound effects, laying a haunting atmosphere of dark beauty and noise. In "Lambs' Breath," drone, heavily distorted guitars, and space-shifting effects follow, providing a sense of calm relief.

"Asunder, Sweet" is a forward moving piece structured on synths and guitars, which build in anticipation and continue into the final track, "Piss Crowns Are Trebled." A hypnotic drum beat relieves the tension, and strings come into play to signal a new musical direction. The track spans nearly 14 minutes, and is a masterpiece of guitars, strings, and drums working cohesively to deliver the most intense song on the album.

Godspeed You! Black Emperor aren't the best at what they do; they're the only ones who do what they do. On this 2015 album, they've put their trademark ability to craft long and layered sonic soundscapes to excellent use. The moments of gritty dissonance juxtapose against the groovy rock-out moments for an overall excellent listen.

Asunder, Sweet And Other Distress is currently available on Amazon (Vinyl, CD, MP3).
