Hats off to critically acclaimed R&B singer Frank Ocean, who paid tribute to the late Aaliyah on what would have been her 36th birthday over the weekend by posting this recording of "(At Your Best) You Are Love."
This rendition of the song that became an Aaliyah hit in 1994 is as heartwarming as it is unexpected. The song itself was originally written and recorded by The Isley Brothers for their 1976 album Harvest For The World, as a tribute to their mother.
Ocean showcases his high vocal range while the song itself is much smoother than Aaliyah or The Isley Brothers' versions. With only keyboard and bass playing in the background, this recording is very intimate. The Odd Future affiliate hasn't released an album since his debut, Channel Orange, but this cover is sure to have his fans anxiously awaiting his next full-length project.
