This past weekend, Sir-Mix-A-Lot performed his classic "Baby Got Back" with the assistance of the Seattle Symphony. The combination led to a joyous recreation of the tribute to large buttocks. The original track was released 22-years ago, and Sir-Mix-a-Lot is 50-years-old now.
The collaboration came together as a part of Seattle Symphony's Sonic Evolution series, a project aiming to create orchestra music inspired by Seattle-born icons. The orchestra also backed up Sir-Mix-a-Lot on his performance of his 1988 song, "Posse on Broadway." The rapper jokingly called the event "Orchestral-movements-from-the-hood night."
Interestingly, Gabriel Prokofiev, a london-based composer, was called upon to orchestrate. Prokofiev's grandfather, Sergei, is regarded as one of the major composers of the 20th century.
Sir-Mix-a-Lot has been relatively quiet since his 2003 album release, Daddy's Home.
