NPR's Tiny Desk Concerts series, host of previous guests such as Night Beds and Wilco, features L.A. beatmaker/singer/songwriter Baths on its latest edition.
Accompanied by Morgan Greenwood on guitar and keyboards, Baths' Will Wiesenfeld gives an emotive performance of three tracks from his latest album, Obsidian. Unlike previous Baths performances that identified Wiesenfeld as an Aphex Twin-esque, knob-twiddling prodigy, this Tiny Desk Concert showcases his new songs' melancholy atmospheres and deeply personal lyrics.
The cramped NPR office, while limiting to more rambunctious musicians, seems a perfect setting for Baths' bookish, self-effacing nerdiness. While Wiesenfeld may not limit himself to playing strictly "bedroom pop," he seems as apt a poster boy for the homespun genre as anyone else. Watch above, and ponder the potential catharsis you could achieve if you too sung about your deepest feelings in falsetto.
