Last week at SXSW, The Beastie Boys' Mike D and Ad-Rock shared that they will be doing a few special events to showcase their Beastie Boys Book, which was released in October of 2018 and became a #1 New York Times Bestseller.  The book — in its hardcover, digital, and audio formats — was universally praised by fans and critics alike with 5-star ratings for capturing the history of the band in an intimate and engaging way.

This is expected to be more than a typical book tour, with longtime friend and frequent contributor Spike Jonze on board as the director.  In the '90s, Jonze gained a reputation as a great music video director working with artists like Sonic Youth, Weezer, Fatboy Slim, and Puff Daddy.  Jonze also created a wealth of groundbreaking material with the Beastie Boys, including iconic videos for "Sabotage" and "Sure Shot" from Ill Communication.

After the untimely passing of Adam Yauch (MCA) at just 47 years old in 2012, the remaining Beastie Boys quietly stepped away from the spotlight.  In the years since, Mike D and Ad-Rock have respected MCA's wishes to keep the band's music out of commercials and promotional videos, and not released any new music either.

The Beastie Boys Book, detailing the band's growing up in New York City and their meteoric rise to superstardom, is essentially the only work The Beastie Boys have dropped since Hot Sauce Committee Part Two over 7 years ago.  These live performances will bring that story to the stage.  A press release references a series of events the duo did last year performing an oral history of the band with reenactments of key stories from the book.  Given the band's musical explorations from punk to hip hop to funk to cutting-edge video, there is no telling what may happen.

The tour will take place on April 5 at Tower Theater in Philadelphia and April 8, 9, and 10 at Kings Theater in Brooklyn, and tickets are currently available through the links below.  Stay tuned, we will be updating this page if more information becomes available.
