It has already been a phenomenal year for tiny starlet Ariana Grande. She has had a string of summer hits, including "Problem" featuring Iggy Azalea, "Break Free" featuring Zedd, and "Bang Bang" with gal pals Jessie J and Nicki Minaj.
Let's now add another song to the list: "Best Mistake" featuring Big Sean. Going back to her R&B roots, Grande has nailed this tune with her sultry vocal tones, accompanied by a piano melody and simple drum beat. Her runs are flawless and the vulnerability in her voice matches the somber lyrical content. Grande is definitely channeling Mariah Carey in this track, but still giving it her own flavor.
Big Sean's featured rap in the middle of the song adds a strong male perspective, and his honey-like tones blend pleasingly with Grande's. This isn't the first time the two have worked together. They collaborated on "Problem," and have since been spending more and more time with each other. E! News recently reported that the two have taken their friendship to the next level, however it is yet to be confirmed by their reps. Whatever the outcome, we just hope they keep making music together. "Best Mistake" is a beauty and a nice change to the party anthems of Grande's recent hits.
Grande's sophomore album, My Everything, is available for pre-order now on iTunes and is set to be released on August 25. In the meantime, tune to her Zumic artist page for all the latest in music, news, and tour dates.
