Modest Mouse have shared "The Best Room," the third single from their upcoming album Strangers to Ourselves. Check out the stream on YouTube above.
The track is a political statement on how Western society's priorities and values are skewed, as Isaac Brock sings, "The best news that we got / Was some dumb hokum we'd all bought." He boils us down to primates, "All going apeshit" when we get distracted with silly news and entertainment.
Hard hitting, thrashy drums with choppy guitars and vocals are the driving force behind this tune. The track does get airy at points, however, with dreamy harmonies and guitars that fill the spaces between the grittiness. Overall, it's a solid track and it will be interesting to see how the rest of the album pans out.
Strangers to Ourselves is available for pre-order on Amazon (Vinyl, CD, MP3) and iTunes. They've pushed back the March 3 release date to March 17 and they're expected to also perform on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon that day.
