"Between the Bars" - The Civil Wars (Elliot Smith Cover) [YouTube Audio & Video]

Defunct folk-duo The Civil Wars announced this week that they would be releasing the long awaited digital version of their vinyl-only covers EP titled Between the Bars on February 11th. In celebration, they've released the audio of the EP's title track, "Between the Bars," a classic Elliot Smith track off of his album Either/Or. The duo make the cover their own, adding to the quiet, cassette-tape quality of the original with vocal harmonies and a subtle, emotional violin backing.

The upcoming EP also features covers of Portishead's Sour Times, Michael Jackson's "Billie Jean" and The Romantics' "Talking in Your Sleep." Though The Civil Wars disbanded in 2012, Between the Bars was the third release of back-logged content from the group in 2013, behind their self titled LP and their EP Bare Bones.
