Death Cab For Cutie are getting set to release their new album, Kintsugi, on May 31st. In support of the LP, the band was on The Late Show With David Letterman last night to perform the first single, "Black Sun." Watch it above via YouTube.
This new lineup of Death Cab For Cutie includes Dave Depper and Zac Rae alongside Ben Gibbard, Nick Harmer, and Jason McGerr. Before they kick into "Black Sun," Dave asks the meaning of Kintsugi. Ben explains that it's method of repairing Japanese ceramics with gold in the enamel.
The band gives a spirited performance, with Dave Depper's keyboards providing atmospheric beauty behind Ben's lyrics. "Black Sun" is a subtle, indie rock gem, and this performance shows that Death Cab For Cutie can still bring a positive energy. After the song, Dave apologizes for mistaking Mount Whitney in California for Mount Rainier in Washington.
Kintsugi is currently available for pre-sale via Amazon (Vinyl, CD, MP3) and iTunes.
The band has announced a string of U.S. and European tour dates that will begin in April. For Death Cab For Cutie's latest music, news, and tour info, check out their Zumic artist page.
