NPR Music kicks ass. This much, we've known for a long time.
Recently, we've been learning more about the fantastic African guitar player known as Bombino. Originally from Niger, he is absolutely the most interesting psychedelic guitar player out on the road right now (at least to my ears). Schooled by Jimi Hendrix and Mark Knopfler videos, Bombino fuses American blues rock and folk techniques with African musical sensibilities. Lightning fast melodic runs and loose grooves are in perfect balance for a hypnotic musical stew.
On this Tiny Desk Concert video, we get over 13 minutes of 3 very jammed out songs. The NPR Tiny Desk office is a very cool intimate setting, and you can see that Bombino and his band are having a great time in the unusual venue.
