8-piece Latin funk band Brownout stopped by Seattle's KEXP studios to perform a set of Black Sabbath songs and a brief interview. Watch above and prepared to hear Sabbath songs as you've never heard them before.
"Iron Man" kicks off the set with a funky guitar progression that leads into an angry metal riff. Horns add a touch of flare to the well-known tune as a drum / conga solo are performed towards the end. Vocalist Alex Marrero sounds great as "The Wizard" is highlighted with a trombone solo from Mark Gonzales.
A brief interview includes the bands' time in Portland and life on the road. They explain the various types of Black Sabbath fans that the band attracts and how inserting horns into the songs seemed impossible at first.
"Spanish Caravan" mellows out the room with spacey effects and an extroadinary solo from guitarist Adrian Quesada. A funky take on an otherwise dark song, "N.I.B." is brought to life with a trombone / sax combo and a psychedelic guitar solo. After hearing these versions, it's surprising to notice how well the horns can fit into these songs.
Their new album, Brownout Presents Black Sabbath, is out now. You can pick that up and follow the bands' latest news by going on their official website.
