Rookie Magazine's Theme Song is a monthly series that features a new band performing a cover every month. This month's installment has Perfect Pussy performing Bruce Springsteen's "Candy's Room" off of Darkness On the Edge of Town.

The song begins with the 16th-note, locomotive tambourine. Like the original, the band then blitzes into a spastic chorus. Frontwoman Meredith Graves sounds like an extraterrestrial, singing softly as the noisy lo-fi production collapses into chaos. The outro of song has nothing but guitar feedback for over two minutes. Check the song out above.

Graves also talked to Rookie about self-image and the origin of her band's name. She states:

I’m always thinking about stuff that has to do with oppression and the body, and how it all works together. I’ve worked with people of all genders and sexualities and all sorts of bodies for all sorts of events, and if there’s one thing that I’ve learned, it’s that no one is immune from the paranoia of looking at yourself in a mirror really critically.

Their debut album, Say Yes to Love, is available now through Capture Tracks. You can buy it on Amazon.
