This year marks the 45th anniversary of The Velvet Underground's self-titled third album, and Polydor/UME will be commemorating the occasion with a deluxe reissue. The package will include stereo and mono versions of the album, live recordings from a November 1969 gig at San Francisco’s The Matrix, and a previously unreleased album dating back to 1969.
This recording of "I Can't Stand It" comes to us from that unreleased album, simply titled, The 1969 Sessions. Many of these tracks would later appear on Lou Reed's debut solo record, including "I Can't Stand It." The unreleased full band version is grittier and more punk rock than Reed's solo rendition, which is a much more straight-forward garage rock tune.
The Velvet Underground - 45th Anniversary Super Deluxe Edition will be out November 24th, but you can pre-order it now on Amazon.
