Cat Power — real name Chan Marshall — announced her first album in six years, Wanderer, as well as an accompanying tour.

Since 2012's Sun, Marshall has largely stayed out of the spotlight aside from some solo touring.  The majority of her time has instead been spent raising her young son, who was born in 2015 only a couple of years after Marshall battled an immune disorder that led to canceled tour dates and frequent hospitalizations.

Now, Marshall returns with a new self-produced album that "includes appearances by longtime friends and compatriots, as well as guest vocals courtesy of friend and recent tour-mate Lana Del Rey."  The tracks were written and recorded over the last few years and promise to bring Marshall's trademark emotion.  In an article published by Domino, she sounds grounded and reflective as she explains the album's ethos:

The course my life has taken in this journey - going from town to town, with my guitar, telling my tale; with reverence to the people who did this generations before me.  Folk singers, blues singers, and everything in between.  They were all wanderers, and I am lucky to be among them.
