Delving deeper and deeper into space funk, Tame Impala have released the 2nd single from their upcoming 2015 album, Currents. Watch the official music video for "'Cause I'm A Man" above, via the band's official YouTube. The band also sent out a press release that reveals how the song was produced:

Sketched out in planes, cars, hotels and homes since the completion of Tame Impala's worldwide critically acclaimed Lonerism in 2012, 'Cause I'm a Man' and 'Let It Happen' were written, performed, recorded, produced and mixed by Kevin Parker in Fremantle, Western Australia.

The song has a slow, breezy vibe, but there's a lot going on. Much like Kevin Parker's contributions to Mark Ronson's Uptown Special album ("Summer Breaking," "Daffodils," and "Leaving Los Feliz") the guitar tone is super thick and there's a sense of retro pop / R&B along the lines of Prince and Stevie Wonder. It's certainly a departure from the guitar-driven psychedelic hard rock we heard on Lonerism tracks like "Elephant" and "Mind Mischief."

The Nicky Smith-directed video offers some insight to the song's lyrics, which explores gender identity. We see men and women in various surreal positions, as there's a pretty obvious influence from the Belgian surrealist René Magritte. While the 3D digital video is taking Magritte's images into the future, the imagery of a disco and analog television screens are a throwback to 30+ years ago.

The other video, titled "Official Live Video," portrays muppet-ized versions of the band members performing the song. It's great for a laugh, but look somewhere else if you're searching for a live performance of the song, as this video has the same audio as the audio single and the other music video.

The release date for Currents has been set for July 17, 2015 with pre-orders now available on Amazon (Vinyl, CD, MP3).
