As part of the Intel creators project, English singer Little Boots (real name Victoria Hesketh) and designer Michelle Wu, explain what went into the creation of her LED studded dress. The dress was inspired by Hesketh's desire to continue using LED lights in her shows, like they are employed in her psychedelic music video "Remedy."
Wu outlines the process she used to attach the diodes together. She also pulls apart the control mechanism, showing small processor used to program the lights as well as the sd card that stores the lightshows. This system allows Wu to program light shows for the dress, corresponding to songs in Hesketh's repertoire. This video offers an view into what Little boots is seeking artistically as well as how she plans on taking her shows to the next level. I like the way Zac Sokol of Noisey sums Hesketh's dress up in combination with her Tenouri-on; "The light-up instrument x the light-up dress = luminescent insanity."
Little Boots released her latest album Nocturnes earlier this summer. Currently on tour, she will finish her last 3 shows this month. Head over to her Zumic Zumic artist page to check if you'll be able to see her new dress firsthand.
