After taking a break to focus on her latest album, Lotus, Christina Aguilera will return to NBC's The Voice for its fifth season. Aguilera will replace Shakira who will be taking a break from next season to focus on her new music and newborn baby.

In a recent statement with US Weekly, Shakira addressed her departure:

I'm not going to be able to do next season because I have to get back to my motherhood and also get back to the studio, the recording studio, to finish my album, the one that I started working on before I had to deliver a baby and before I took this gig with The Voice.

Shakira also said she may return for another season. Let's keep our fingers crossed!

The Voice's fourth season has scored high ratings beating out the likes of American Idol, which has been struggling for a while now. The dynamic of The Voice focuses more on the development of the artist's voice rather than their image like Idol, known for their goofy/crazy/mildly entertaining "one hit wonders" like William Hung seen throughout their audition process.

This season, Shakira and Usher took Cee Lo and Christina Aguilera's seats as judges and brought along their unyielding charm. Cee Lo and Aguilera took a break from the show to focus on their own music careers.

Carson Daly confirmed that Aguilera will be returning but there are still rumors as to whether or not Cee Lo will.

Daly told US Weekly:

I think they are working on a deal, to be honest with you, and I don't think it has been finalized. I don't know the answer to that. It wouldn't surprise me if it was, sooner or later. It sounded like today it was like, 'Yeah, they are working on it,' which, usually those things work out, but I don't know.

Too bad they can't keep all of the judges and make one mega superstar panel of judges on The Voice!
