Equipped with a smoking rhythm section and 3 horn players, Black Joe Lewis brought incredible energy to WFUV's studios to perform two of his newer songs:
Black Joe Lewis - "Come To My Party"
Black Joe Lewis - "The Hipster"
"Come To My Party" is a super uptempo take on an old school R&B / funk jam. It's fun party music. "The Hipster" also has a fun feel to it, but the lyrics offer more of a social statement with the narrative of a rich kid moving to the ghetto. Both songs are fairly true to the album versions on Electric Slave.
Electric Slave, Lewis' 2013 LP, was his first album without any credit given to The Honeybears, the backing band on his first three full length albums going back to 2007. To be honest, I'm not sure if it's different personnel or that's just a marketing thing. Let us know in the comments if you have the answer.
