Leon Bridges has officially arrived.
Performing the title track from his newly released album, Coming Home, Bridges' smooth, soulful voice (and his sharp 1950s style) was on full display.
The Tonight Show performance, a culmination of months of recording and touring, was the singer’s most prominent performance to date and provided a platform that will surely help attract a new legion of fans. On the grandest of stages, Bridges displayed his trademark unabashed emotion and the confidence of a more seasoned professional. His poise may be the result of his seemingly never-ending tour. It may just be that the 25-year-old is settling into his musical style.
Not bad, considering that this time last year Bridges was "washing dishes at Del Frisco's Grille, playing open-mic nights" in Fort Worth, Texas.
A run-in with indie-rocker Austin Jenkins in August, 2014 prompted Bridges to explore his soulful style and record two demos. Within months those demos received more than 800,000 plays on SoundCloud. Since then, Bridges signed with Columbia Records, toured the United States, and recorded and released a 10-song album. And if that wasn’t enough, Bridges begins a European tour later this summer and yet another American tour next fall.
The Leon Bridges Locomotion has left the station. And it’s looking to remind the world of a more soulful time.
