In July 2015, experimental electronic maven Jamie xx performed at Pitchfork Music Festival in Chicago, Illinois. The video below captured Jamie playing "Could Heaven Ever Be Like This," originally featured on the 1977 album Turn This Mutha Out by jazz drummer Idris Muhammad.

Jamie xx fans will recognize "Could Heaven Ever Be Like This" as the main sample on his track "Loud Places," from his recent solo album In Colour.

Although Jamie xx chose to play the track mostly true to the original recording, he did give the song a few subtle touches. He cuts the high frequencies midway through, as well as altering the volume and tempo in certain sections. The crowd at Pitchfork clearly enjoyed the track, as Jamie xx shares his knowledge of rare, long forgotten gems while showing his respect for the original artist behind one of his 2015 hits.

Jamie xx's new album, In Colour is available on Amazon (Vinyl, CD, MP3). You can also stream the album for free and read our review right here on Zumic.
