Coming off the highly successful single "Power Trip," J. Cole returns with his latest video off the critically acclaimed Born Sinner. "Crooked Smile" featuring legendary R&B group TLC, takes viewers into a story of a young man who is dealing narcotics to provide for his daughter. A different approach from the positive visuals J. Cole usually offers, the video chronicles the contrasting lifestyles of a narcotics officer and a drug dealer, who both ultimately have the same goals in life for their family.

The imagery of happiness takes a change of course, as both men meet and cross paths in a drug bust. Cole's character is arrested, but a shocking twist occurs as his daughter is fatally shot due to a timid officer searching with a loaded gun. As Cole is placed into the police vehicle, tears stream down his face due to seeing his child being carried out while the officer is faced with sadness as well. Though straying away from the song's content, the video delivers a power message as the end credits state "FOR AIYANA STANLEY-JONES . . . AND PLEASE RECONSIDER YOUR WAR ON DRUGS." Aiyana Stanley-Jones, a seven-year-old girl, was killed in Detroit, Michigan in 2010 during a drug raid similar to the scenery displayed in the video.

Still currently headlining his What Dreams May Come Tour, fans can view the rapper performing at this month's iHeartRadio Music Festival in Las Vegas, Nevada. For a further look into Born Sinner , here is a full audio stream of the album.
