Singer Alice Glass announced earlier today that she is leaving electronic duo Crystal Castles to pursue a solo career.
In a post via her personal Facebook page, she wrote:
I am leaving Crystal Castles. My art and my self-expression in any form has always been an attempt towards sincerity, honesty and empathy for others. For a multitude of reasons both professional and personal, I no longer feel that this is possible within CC. Although this is the end of the band, I hope my fans will embrace me as a solo artist in the same way they have embraced Crystal Castles.
The Toronto-based experimental project began when producer Ethan Kath recruited a young Glass to add vocals to his blend of eerie synth pop and ear-splitting electronic arrangements. The band released three albums and two EPs over a four-year period, receiving widespread critical acclaim and earning a solid fan base. The breakup explains why they've been laying low ever since the release of their third LP, III, back in 2012.
