Even if you're familiar with Lindsey Stirling, the performance above still probably seems bizarre; there's really just no getting used to a violin-wielding contortionist playing classical melodies over throbbing drum & bass--she transcends genre. "Crystalize," a track from her 2012 debut album, Lindsey Stirling, takes listeners on a voyage through peaks and valleys. The intro is calming and soothing, gradually building up to a dubstep-inspired verse supported by a plethora of swirling strings. The remainder of the song is relatively straightforward, sticking to the "peaks and valleys" structure.

However peculiar the sound may be, Lindsey Stirling has made it her own. If you enjoyed this performance on Conan, check out the rest of her album on iTunes. The Californian composer stays in the realm she's created, but at times explores some darker gothy approaches. If you REALLY liked what you heard, you can pre-order the reissued deluxe version of her debut album on iTunes, which features five additional bonus tracks.
