Swedish progressive metal band Opeth have released an audio stream of the song "Cusp Of Eternity," which you can listen to above. The tune is from their upcoming album, Pale Communion, which will be available August 26th via Roadrunner Records.
Heavy drums, jagged guitar riffs, and swirling keyboard effects form together to create this well balanced juggernaut of a song. The story telling vocals from singer Mikael Akerfelt are mixed with echo effects, but it doesn't take away from his impressive vocal range. Influences from previous progressive bands like King Crimson can be heard in the chord changes after the impressive solo midway through the song.
The graphics that supplement the song are religiously themed. The Latin phrase "Ille Dolet Vere, Qui Sine Teste Dolet" appears numerous times throughout the video, which translates to "He mourns honestly who mourns without witnesses".
You can pre-order Pale Communion through the Roadrunner Records official website. Opeth is currently on a tour through Europe until November. You can find additional tour information and music news on the Opeth official website.
Opeth "Cusp Of Eternity" Lyrics:
Child, at the bottom was born
To a world of deceit and then a land of lies
Vagabonds would take her away
The stars that stands are lost in eternal sorrow
She walks across the country
She holds her hand up high in the rain
Mother was screaming for help
She turns around to stare at a scene from her memory
She sighing, wishing her heart
Flew through a flap of wings that's come from a dream
The top one is waiting to see her name
Coming to inside at the cusp of eternity
