In support of their latest album Kintsugi, Death Cab For Cutie stopped by NPR to play a Tiny Desk Concert. The four-song performance saw Death Cab as a trio, performing altered versions of two Kintsugi tracks, along with one from Plans and one from Transatlanticism.
It's really great to hear a different take on the Kintsugi tracks. After their true-to-form performances on Kimmel, it seemed only right to breathe new life into the compositions, which is exactly what Ben Gibbard, Nick Harmer, and Zac Rae did with this minimal presentation.
The icing on the cake, of course, was hearing a couple of older tunes. "Your Heart Is An Empty Room" is heartfelt and beautiful in this rendition, and Gibbard really makes you feel the words in the absence of his guitar. "Passenger Seat," off their magnum opus Transatlanticism, is just as powerful.
