"Deuces" - Freddie Gibbs [YouTube Audio & Lyrics]

Between his album ESGN and yet another collaborative EP with Madlib, Indiana gangster rapper Freddie Gibbs has had quite a prolific year. "Deuces," a new one-off track produced by Chicago drill kingpin Young Chop, is fitting way to cap off Gibbs' successful year. Strangely, the song's "video" (above) is comprised of footage from the infamous Holyfield vs. Tyson fight that ended when Mike Tyson bit a chunk of his opponent's ear off.

While his tracks with Madlib manning the boards showcased a stranger, more conversational side of Gibbs, "Deuces" is a no-nonsense banger that emphasizes breakneck-paced rapping and some unusually catchy hooks from the characteristically stoic Gibbs. He seems bent on being known as a "gangster rapper," with the subject matter in "Deuces" rarely straying from drug trafficking and violence, so getting a beat by Young Chop (the go-to producer in Chicago's uber-violent drill scene) was an apt move. In 2013, Gibbs has expanded his style from its previously narrow confines of straightforward, '90s-worshipping gangster rap to encompass everything ranging from psychedelia to trap to drill. Gangster Gibbs is making power plays.
