SXSW Music started earlier this week and it started off with a bang.  Foxygen and DIIV have both made statements and are a little sick of SXSW.  DIIV was not at all happy about how they were treated.

Hi Austin. Fuck SXSW. There… I said it.

Here, the music comes last. 5 minute set-up, no sound check, 15 minute set.  The “music” element is all a front, it’s the first thing to be compromised. Corporate money everywhere but in the hands of the artists, at what is really just a glorified corporate networking party. Drunk corporate goons and other industry vampires and cocaine. Everyone is drunk, being cool. “Official” bureaucracy and all their mindless rules.  Branding, branding, branding. It’s bullshit… sorry.

Foxygen wasn't quite as elegant in how they handled their meltdown.

All that has happened in these first few days of SXSW music is reminiscent to the Dave Grohl keynote speech.

"The Musician Comes First," says Dave Grohl.  SXSW asked him to speak and maybe they should listen. The musicians aren't happy with SXSW.  Maybe it's time for a political and cultural change in SXSW, to help focus on the musicians, the music, and the people.
