With ARTPOP three weeks away from its November 11th release date, Lady Gaga has shared another song with the world. "Do What U Want" features R. Kelly and some thong-tastic artwork, and it couldn't be more different than ARTPOP's lead single "Applause."
Whereas its predecessor saw Gaga once again flirting with trendy EDM, "Do What U Want" has an '80s influence that is instantly audible. Like a more muscular version of Drake's "Hold on We're Going Home," the beat bumps breezily while oscillating synths and slap bass unite to create a pulsating jam. Gaga's lyrics read as an update on Aqua's "Barbie Girl," with a chorus of "Do what you want with my body," somewhat explaining her ass' prominent placement on the song's artwork. Kellz plays the Ken to Gaga's Barbie, proposing that he "could be the green in your blunt," among other well-chosen metaphors.
