Brooklyn's veteran indie-rockers The National swung by CBS This Morning: Saturday for a performance of two songs from last year's Trouble Will Find Me.

They kicked things off with "Don't Swallow The Cap," a melancholy rocker with a droning, reverb soaked guitar. Keyboard Aaron Dessner pulls double duty by playing trumpet simultaneously, filling the song with swelling brass notes. The band's live presence isn't diminished by the fact that it's a morning show. It's and intimate and unique perspective on the group. Watch the video above.

The band then played the quiet and wistful "I Need My Girl," another track off Trouble Will Find Me. Singer Matt Berninger's dark vocals carry the bulk of the tune, backed by Bryce Dessner's quiet, finger-picked guitar. Midway through, bassist Scott Devendorf unplugs and plugs in a hollowbody guitar, which he bangs on the floor to create a resonant distortion through the chorus. Check it out above.

The band also sat down for a short interview, in which they discuss their beginnings and their long rise to prominence. "The first couple records were kind of on my credit card," says Berninger. The Dessner twins also told the story of how they first began playing music together: a drum and fife purchased for them as kids in Colonial Williamsburg. Watch the full interview below.
