Last night, Drake served as both host and musical guest on Saturday Night Live, and he proved that his acting is still as good as his music. With hilarious sketches and impassioned musical performances, SNL's return from winter break is one of the strongest episodes of the season.
Drake on Saturday Night Live "Started From The Bottom" & "Trophies"
Drake's first musical performance of the night saw him bathed in red light on a blacked-out stage. He opened with his hit "Started From The Bottom," from his most recent record, Nothing Was The Same. The performance was stripped down and raw, with a seamless transition between the end of "Started From The Bottom" and the beginning of the short and sweet "Trophies."
Drake on Saturday Night Live "Hold On We're Going Home" & "From Time"
Drake returned to the stage for his second set, this time bathed in blue light, and sang a barebones and sentimental version of "Hold On We're Going Home," before being joined by Jhené Aiko to sing "From Time," their duet from Nothing Was The Same. The romantic chemistry between the two was palpable as they traded lines back and forth. Watch the performances above.
The singer / rapper also showed off his comedic acting throughout the show. The show started with a cold open lampooning Chris Christie's Bridge-gate, A-Rod's Steroid-gate, and Justin Bieber's Egg-gate. Drake's monologue followed, during which he publicly apologized for coining the term "YOLO" and re-enacted his Bar Mitzvah. Other sketches saw Drake break his New Year's resolutions and reveal Lil Wayne's former acting career. Watch the videos below. You can watch the whole episode at Hulu.
