Monster Magnet's vision of a Cold War superweapon comes to life in their new video for "The Duke," the lead single from last year's album, Last Patrol.
The video, written and directed by Phil Mucci, is a visually stunning and gripping short film, in addition to being a kickass music video. The rotoscoped clip follows the alternate reality story of a survivor of the bombing of Hiroshima. After the Enola Gay levels her hometown, "The Siren" is captured and contained by the US military for their own purposes. The story unfolds in a brilliant comic book style and -- not to ruin the climactic final scenes -- ends with a sample of J. Robert Oppenheimer quoting the Bhagavad Gita: "Now I am become Death, the destroyer of worlds."
The video was released along with an announcement that the band will be re-releasing Last Patrol as Milking The Stars: a re-imagining of Last Patrol, in which "listeners will rediscover inspirations indebted to mainly hallucinogenic chemicals." It will be out on November 14th through Napalm Records.
