Rodrigo y Gabriela has shared a cover of Pink Floyd's Meddle track "Echoes." Listen above on YouTube.
While Pink Floyd's 1971 original is an epic masterpiece that pushed the envelope of what rock bands could do on a record, it is interesting and refreshing to hear the song stripped down to an acoustic element. The duo's performance is spot-on, with just two guitars capturing the essence of the full band's vocal phrasings, bass, drums, and of course guitar parts.
The duo build tension with upbeat strumming and picking after the five-minute mark before executing a flurry of impressive solos that departs far from the original composition. During the section that fans often refer to as seagull or whale noises, the duo employ subtle brushing sounds with emphasized notes. The duo gradually steers back to a build-up that leads to the final climax. Sit back and enjoy!
The song will appear on Rodrigo's upcoming album METTAVOLUTION, which is scheduled for release on April 26, 2019. Pick it up on Amazon.
The duo will be touring parts of Europe beginning in April. For concert tickets and more, check out Rodrigo y Gabriela's Zumic artist page.
