A few months ago the rappers of Aftermath Records, including Eminem, Kendrick Lamar, ScHoolboy Q, Jay Rock, Ab-Soul and Mr. Porter, had an impromptu meeting at Shady Records in Detroit.

According to Kendrick Lamar, him and Eminem didn't record any material together during the meet, but they got a chance to "chop it up." "I bumped heads with Eminem , but it was very brief," Lamar said in an interview with MTV. "That was my first time really chopping it up with him, getting to ask all the questions I wanted to ask him."

The two didn't plan to meet. In fact, he said to MTV News, "It was unexpected," "I just went to Detroit and I had a show out there and I got a call saying, 'Em to come to the studio, come to the studio fast.'"

The question the reporter asked about the two rappers' meeting was sparked by the photo above of the group of Aftermath rappers above, which has been circulating online. It looks like it was taken in a studio, where we assume Eminem is working on his upcoming album. But, according to Lamar, he did not have a chance to hear any of Eminem's new material.

A fan of Eminem before he started making music, K-Dot was very pleased to hear that Shady is a fan of good kid m.a.a.d. city. "He basically told me albums haven't been done like that in a long time from a new artist, and he can appreciate that, how I structured the whole thing," Lamar said. "That was just one of the notes I took out of his book, how to [construct] songs, so I told him that."

The two rappers also shared notes on their creative processes. Lamar said of the meeting that Shady "gave [him] the game on how to stay as creative as possible ... Always stay true to the craft, really. Everybody knows Eminem's penmanship is insane, so I think, for the most part, he focused on that as much as possible. That was the game that he was giving me and my crew. Always stay focused on the craft and not indulge in all the other crazy stuff that comes around."

Wise words from a rap legend to a legend in training. Check out the video of the full interview below which took place after Lamar's set at Firefly.

There is no information on Eminem's forthcoming album yet other than the fact that it will be released this year. But you can check out this 90-second clip of Shady's new material below.

Lamar will be on tour until the end of August. Check out his remaining tour dates here.
