Over the weekend, J. Cole decided to stream his Born Sinner LP perhaps in an attempt to get a leg up on his June 18th comp. Today, Statik Selektah responded by putting Extended Play on NPR music. Selektah saw J. Cole and might have raised him.
Oh my god, this album is good. Selektah is at the top his production game and the list of rappers that he employs is special. Smif-n-Wessun & Flatbush Zombies? Sean Price & Mac Miller? Selektah effortlessly navigates (or maybe tries to bridge the gap) between two generations of hip hop. Extended Play is a classic East Coast record with none of the baggage of trying to be something it's not. Nod your head, enjoy the beats and marvel at the raps.
Head over to NPR to listen for yourself and, if you haven't already, circle June 18th on your calendar.
