Later this week, a Jimi Hendrix archival live album titled Machine Gun: The Fillmore East First Show 12/31/69 will be released. The LP documents the first of four concerts Jimi and the Band of Gypsy's would play at the legendary NYC Fillmore East venue on December 31, 1969 and January 1, 1970. Above, you can listen to them jam on "Ezy Ryder."
According to Producer John McDermott, this was the first time that Jimi performed the song live. Hendrix's guitar wizardry is in full effect as he makes his instrument scream while Buddy Miles and Billy Cox lay a solid rhythm foundation. They pick up the intensity towards the end, and you get to hear a bit of Jimi's humor before the track fades out.
The song would go on to be included on Hendrix's posthumous albums The Cry of Love, First Rays of the New Rising Sun, Live at the Fillmore East and Blue Wild Angel: Live at the Isle of Wight.
