Just couple of months left until the best-selling queen of pop hits the world stage to perform the tunes off her latest album release, Rebel Heart. Of course Madonna will be playing her classic hits as well. The bad news is that fans now have to wait for longer than expected to see the singer in action as organizational setbacks led to the tour being postponed until September 9 with some dates being moved to January. The opening show will now take place in Montreal, instead of Miami.
Regardless of the setbacks, Madonna assures her fans that “It’ll be worth the wait” and it seems her words are causing enthusiasm as ticket prices on the secondary market are up 35% from her last tour. As gathered from international reselling platform Ticketbis sales data, the average price of a ticket for an MDNA tour show was $153.00 while prices for her upcoming shows are averaging $207.00. In addition, the lowest get-in price to attend a show during her previous tour was $21.90 compared to $80 for Rebel Heart.
The data is more baffling than it may seem when you consider that Rebel Heart is the pop diva’s worst selling album in over 20 years. Yet it could be argued that the reason is partly due to the album being leaked before its release, killing any chance of generating the momentum needed to compete with her previous ones.
Still, fans don’t seem to mind as they are now willing to pay more to attend Madonna’s upcoming gigs. The most expensive ticket so far was bought for $896 from Italy and this figure will probably be surpassed as we get closer and closer to the opening day. The bottom line is: Madonna is still Madonna and a simple album-sales misfortune won’t change anything.
