"You've gotta reach for the sky" proclaims Jay Spaceman on the Spiritualized remix of Cut Copy's latest tune, "Free Your Mind," sounding completely different than the original song while including some of the basic harmonies and re-imagining a simplified melody of the original.
Spiritualized's version of the song is very much in line of what you would expect from them. Things start very slowly, with strange psychedelic organ, guitar, and vibraphone (or is that xylophone?) playing melodic parts that seem to run in a round. Things start to pick up as the bass drum plays quarter-notes and heavily distorted guitars start churning out a slow droning groove that remains consistent through the tune. The dissonance of the guitars is eventually countered by a slightly sweet vocal parts that repeats the same line over-and-over.
Previously, we heard Fort Romeau do a remix of the tune, which is now becoming a series of remixes from artists of different musical backgrounds. Very interesting.
