Disney's latest animated feature Frozen, is not only nominated for best animated film but the film's deluxe soundtrack has remained one of the top ten most downloaded albums on iTunes since its release in November.
The Disney album features original music and lyrics by Kristen Anderson Lopez and Robert Lopez and includes performances from Broadway diva Idina Menzel, Kristen Bell, Glee's Jonathan Groff, and Broadway's Josh Gadd. Like many Disney films, Frozen resembles a spectacular Broadway musical. In fact, Disney's CEO and chariman, Bob Iger, has already announced plans to bring the Oscar-nominated film to the Great White Way.
"Let It Go," the film's most notable song performed by Menzel's character, Elsa, has been nominated for an Academy Award for best original song and the Tony award winning actress is scheduled to perform the hit song at the Academy Awards on March 2nd. The soundtrack also includes a pop version of the ballad performed in the film's closing credits by Demi Lovato. Other noteworthy songs include "Love Is An Open Door," performed by Kristen Bell and Broadway leading man Santino Fontana, the hilarious "In Summer" performed by Tony award nominee Josh Gad and "Do You Want to Build a Snowman" also performed by Bell.
Frozen also features a beautiful score by Christophe Beck. The film's opening orchestration titled "Vuelie," resembles The Lion King's "The Circle of Life" in the way that it immediately pulls the viewer into the fictional world of the film.
Unlike the studio's most recent theatrical releases, Frozen resembles the classic Disney films of the 1990s such as Aladdin, The Little Mermaid, and Beauty and the Beast and is a successful attempt at an old fashioned, animated movie musical. And, with an infectious soundtrack and a beautiful storyline, it is honestly no surprise as to why Frozen has proven to be so successful.
The soundtrack for Frozen can be purchased on iTunes.
