Yesterday, news broke that the immortal Iggy Pop has teamed up with Queens of the Stone Age frontman Josh Homme to form a new band, rounded out with Dean Fertita and Troy Van Leeuwen (Queens of the Stone Age), Matt Helders (Arctic Monkeys), and Matt Sweeney. They've also shared the first single, "Gardenia," from Iggy's upcoming album, Post Pop Depression. Listen to it above, via Iggy Pop's YouTube.

Driven by Homme's distinctive guitar riffs, "Gardenia" is a straight ahead rock tune that finds Iggy's vocals sounding as pure as ever. The drum & bass rhythm section is powerful and groovy.

Iggy and the band debuted "Gardenia" last night on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert:

In an interview with the New York Times, Josh explained that the unlikely collaboration began when Iggy sent a text message to him:

It basically said, "Hey, it would be great if we got together and maybe write something sometime — Iggy."

Post Pop Depression is scheduled to be released on March 18, 2016. Pick it up on Amazon.
