Today, the Red Hot Chili Peppers have released their 11th studio album, The Getaway, through Warner Bros.

The LP features 13 tracks covering 53 minutes, and was produced by Danger Mouse. The album cover art is a painting by Kevin Peterson where each band member is represented (Anthony Kiedis = raven, Flea = raccoon, Josh Klinghoffer = girl, Chad Smith = bear). If you look closely, you'll notice the Los Angeles area code "323" scribbled on the door.

Band personnel on The Getaway are Anthony Kiedis (lead vocals), Flea (bass, piano, backing vocals, trumpet), Josh Klinghoffer (guitars, bass, backing vocals, keyboards), and Chad Smith (drums, percussion), with guest appearances from Elton John (piano on "Sick Love") and Anna Waronker (vocals on "The Getaway").

The Getaway was delayed due to bassist Flea breaking his arm while snowboarding. In an interview on KROQ's Kevin and Bean Show, singer Anthony Kiedis talked about the unfortunate accident:

We had an unusually difficult experience making this record where we wrote 20-30 songs and it was all ready to go and we thought it was happening, and then Flea went snowboarding and broke his arm real bad, which was a bit of a setback for the bass boner [laughs]. So we re-thought everything and then we didn’t have a producer and we were just sort of lost in space with all these songs. And lo and behold it was meant to be, as these things can be, and when all the dust settled Brian Burton, aka Danger Mouse, emerged and said, 'Let’s go make a record.' We were like ‘Great, we have all these songs’ and he was like ‘Leave those there, let’s go write new songs in the studio.'

With a 30+ year career under their belt, the Red Hot Chili Peppers prove that they can deliver the uptempo funk, soul, and rock that has made them international stars. Lyrically, The Getaway is a personal album, with many of the songs' lyrics dealing with a two year relationship Kiedis had with supermodel Helena Vestergaard that fell apart.

Songs we recommend are "The Getaway," "Dark Necessities," "We Turn Red," "Goodbye Angels," "Go Robot," and "Dreams of a Samurai."
