Ryan Adams' "Gimme Something Good" is turning into somewhat of a hit song. Last night, Adams played the song on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, with a backing band who may have made their debut under the name of The Shining. At least one fan message board has been discussing whether this was a joke or serious, and having fun with references to the Stephen King book / Stanley Kubrick movie of the same name. Watch the official video of Ryan Adams and The Shining's performance above.
With his trusty Fender Jazzmaster in his hands and Princeton Reverb amps behind him, Adams delivers a great performance. Having been touring lately, the veteran and his band are obviously a well oiled machine. If you like the performance, be sure to check out the official music video featuring Elvira right here on Zumic.
To me, the great irony in this song is that it sounds a lot like the person who Ryan Adams is often mistaken for in conversation: Bryan Adams (aka "The Canadian guy from the '80s"). Songs like "Summer of '69" and "Run To You" have the same types of excellent classic rock guitar parts and sugary pop elements that I find in "Gimme Something Good." Having said that, Ryan Adams' new tune is definitely very much in his own voice and not a rip-off. It's just a fun comparison.
