Lykke Li has released the video to her song "Gunshot," which is track five off her new album, I Never Learn.
Set in a post-apocalyptic parking lot, Li traipses around aimlessly in a dark trench coat miming the act of being shot over and over again. Her convulsing is quite a dramatic representation of the event but translates beautifully on screen. The drums that recur throughout the song aim to resemble the sounds of gunshots and create a particularly cold sound towards the end. This is quite a powerful clip that has created an ethereal atmosphere to the band of misfits surrounding her.
All community members seem to be gypsies and segregated into male and female groups. One of the most confronting scenes for the viewer is when a young kid in a denim vest aims a finger gun at Li, and shoots her. Throughout Li's journey of spasms in the parking lot, she comes across an arguing couple, motocross bikers, and a group of twerking girls. While the latter seem out of place, it is almost a prerequisite in music videos these days. With a painted white face and dark eye make up to add to the dark themes, the video ends with Li playing dead, alone in the carpark.
The Swedish-born indie pop singer-songwriter is about to embark on a world tour, so be sure to head to her Zumic artist page for all the details.
