Unfortunately, Guy Clark couldn't be there in person. Rolling Stone reports that he was "recovering from surgery during the show's June 18th taping." Zumic sends our best wishes to the incredible man, musician, and songwriter who is now 73 years old.

Isbell's performance is on point. Playing a Martin acoustic guitar with the soundhole covered, there's a quiet intensity that fills the space beautifully. The song has an interesting history, having been recorded by many notable performers. From Wikipedia:

"Desperados Waiting for a Train" is a song written by Guy Clark and originally recorded by Jerry Jeff Walker for his 1973 album Viva Terlingua. It subsequently appeared on Tom Rush's 1974 album Ladies Love Outlaws as well as by Rita Coolidge on her album Fall into Spring that same year before Clark's own rendition was released on his first LP, 1975's Old No. 1.

Other notable recordings have been made by The Highwaymen (Kris Kristofferson, Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, and Willie Nelson), Slim Pickins, and in 1998 Nanci Griffith did a version with Jerry Jeff Walker, Steve Earle, Rodney Crowell, Jimmie Dale Gilmore, Eric Taylor, and Guy Clark himself.

This year's class also includes Asleep at the Wheel, Loretta Lynn, Townes Van Zandt, Flaco Jiménez, and the Season 1 ACL Crew. Last year's inaugural class honored Willie Nelson, Stevie Ray Vaughan & Double Trouble, Darrell Royal, and Bill Arhos.

The Hall of Fame special will be the upcoming season premiere, slated to air on October 3, 2015. Stay tuned to Zumic for Austin City Limits TV coverage and get more information about the 2015 Austin City Limits Hall of Fame and more at acltv.com.
