Motörhead guitarist Phil Campbell is making music for kids with the project Panda Party. The group is comprised of "four friendly pandas who live on Panda Island," and include singer Punky Panda, keyboard player Penny Panda, guitarist Texas Pete Panda and drummer Percy Panda. The band's music is aimed at children six and under. Watch the video, featuring Campbell, for their tune "Happy Birthday" above.
The song? It's actually good. It's surprisingly good. It's very guitar-driven and definitely has that hard-rocking Motörhead-esque quality. If you replace the kid-friendly subject matter in the lyrics with, let's say... anything else, you'd have a decent rock n roll jammer. There might be some backlash from Motörhead fans, but who else would you want making kids music, The Wiggles? At least this way you know the music your children are listening to is good. Just don't be surprised if your pride and joy grows up to be a headbanger.
Campbell is working on the project with Neil Starr, frontman for Campbell's All Starr Band. In a statement, they've said their goal is to provide "engaging kids songs and upbeat nursery rhymes to teach ABCs, colors and so much more."
