Smoke DZA has released the visuals for "Hearses," which features Ab-Soul, from his April 1st album, Dream.ZONE.Achieve. Like the song, the video depicts the two emcees sending competition to an early grave with their skills. DZA manhandles the first and third verse, while Ab-Soul sweetly sings the hook, and exemplifies masterful wordplay in the second verse over DJ Dahi production.
The video, directed by Goldrush, doesn't tell a cohesive story, but there are stylistic jumps to few different recurring scenes. One of which shows the rappers' silhouettes filled with flames. A woman is appears intermittently, crying over a casket presumably occupied by a rappers DZA and Soul sent off in a hearse. The music video is both eery and psychedelic, which is fitting for the tone of the track.
Dream.ZONE.Acheive is divided into the three decipherable parts: Dream, Zone, and Achieve. "Hearses" appears in the zone category. In interview with Complex, Smoke DZA described the zone section as "the hustle, the motivation and that shit like 'Hearses.'" The album included features from Ab-Soul, Cam'ron, Curren$y Joey Badass, Ty Dolla Sign, and Wiz Khalifa.
This is an exciting time for both rappers, coming off by far their most successful albums to date -- Smoke DZA with Dream.ZONE.Acheive, and Ab-Soul with These Days. Smoke DZA, a criminally underrated New York artist, has been hard at work since his April Fool's Day album. A week after the Dream.ZONE.Acheive release, DZA followed it up by releasing his mixtape Ringside 2, the next week.
